Swimming Coach

The health, safety and well-being of young people are of paramount importance to all the adults who work at Rugby School Thailand. Children have the right to protection, regardless of age, gender, race, culture, sexual orientation, or disability. They have a right to be safe in our school. Members of staff in the school have a legal and moral obligation to safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils, taking all reasonable steps to protect them from harm whether from physical injury, abuse, neglect, emotional harm or from anything that interferes with their general development.

Qualifications, Identification, Health and Background Checks

Please note that you will be required to bring documentation to interview providing proof of your identity and qualifications. You many also be required, within the final appointment process, to undergo a health check and relevant background checks (e.g. Enhanced disclosure with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) in the UK and a local police certificate) as part of the school’s recruitment and safeguarding procedures.


Roles and Responsibilities

● To plan and deliver lessons ensuring adherence to the scheme of work and lesson plans.
● Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used correctly.
● Make sure safety standards are followed in sessions and follow all risk assessments.
● Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential.
● Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of the swimmer.
● Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques.
● Correct faults in swimming technique and identify ways to improve performance.
● To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate
and encourage children to participate in swimming.
● Set ground rules for each session.
● Evaluate sessions and give feedback to teachers.
● Regularly assess each participant’s ability and progress and arrange for the award of the
appropriate certificates.
● To constantly update, manage and complete your registers.
● To attend and support School swimming galas in inter and intra school competitions.
● Work alongside the Head of Aquatics, other Teachers/Coaches, Lifeguards etc to help ensure
that participants are able to swim in a safe environment.
● To attend regular meetings with the Head of Aquatics, the RST Director of Sport as and when
● To attend swim competitions and galas locally and nationally.
● To attend training camps and training sessions for the RST Swim Team out of term time as
● To ensure the pool deck and other coaching / teaching spaces are kept in a professional, tidy
manner in keeping with the expectations of the swim programme.

policies, including equal opportunities, safeguarding children, health and safety at work, etc.

General School Responsibilities

● Maintain an appropriate professional manner at all times and support and foster the aims of
the School.
● Familiarisation with the contents of the Teaching Staff Handbook, including the School’s aims
and policies, following closely the guidance provided in these documents.
● Be aware of and comply with the School’s rewards and disciplinary policies.
● Be familiar with the School’s health and safety guidance and be mindful of the health and
safety of all members of the school community.
● Be aware of and act upon all policies regarding the safeguarding of children.

● Help run inter-form, inter house events and activities.
● Liaise with staff to maintain accurate club registers.
● Help to promote and organise events related to swimming.
● Promote pride in the School among the student body through high standards of
dress, behaviour, manners, respect for others and property and general attitude
● Cover for absent colleagues as requested.
● Attend relevant professional development courses.

Other Responsibilities

● Attending swim meets at schools and clubs locally, in Bangkok, the rest of Thailand, and at
other venues around South East Asia as required;
● Supporting and assisting in the organisation of swim meets at RST;
● Participation in annual first-aid and safeguarding.
● Cooperating with RST’s Marketing and Admissions department to promote RST, and
particularly RST’s swimming programme.

● A general enjoyment of swimming and experience of working with young people is essential
● A good standard of education including literacy and numeracy in order to
perform administrative tasks e.g meet manager
● A commitment to the safety and welfare of young people and an understanding of the responsibilities that adults working with them have
● A hardworking approach to all they do
● Experience of coaching swimmers
● An ability to work as a member of a team
● Good levels of English


● A first aid qualification or a willingness to qualify is essential
● Good ICT skills
● Excellent organisational skills
● Good interpersonal skills that enable good relationships with young people and adults
● An ability to deal with students so that they feel they have been dealt with in a fair and consistent manner


● All swimming teachers/coaches must have achieved, as a minimum, any of the following qualifications:
● ASA/UKCC Level 1 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics or international equivalent.
● ASA/UKCC Level 1 Certificate for Coaching Swimming or international equivalent.
